- Introduction drinking water purification
- Water quality of raw water
- Adsorption, filtration, flocculation (incl. lab practical)
- Removal of iron and manganese
- Electro-chemical techniques
- Disinfection (incl. lab practical)
- Small scale treatments systems for rural areas in developing countries
- Conventional waste water treatment
- Constructed wetlands
- Regulations (e.g. EU water framework directive)
Students will gain up-to-date knowledge of the various treatment methods available. Building on their knowledge they will be able to recommend methods suitable for particular raw water quality and specific local conditions. From practical work in the laboratory students will gain first-hand experience of basic processes in the water treatment process and will be able to assess their application at small and large scale.
