Overview in the area of renewable energies:
- need for renewables, legal aspects
- solar thermal power (non-concentrating and concentrating collectors, solar thermal systems, solar power stations)
- photovoltaics (solar cell, losses, energy storage)
- wind energy (rotor types, system types)
- hydropower (turbine types, system types)
- geothermal energy (system types)
- biomass (biomasses, system types)
Students will obtain insights in various innovative techniques of environmental engineering. The lecture gives an overview over the technical use of solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy and biomass. Based on the understanding why renewable energies are important some basic economic figures are explained. Afterwards, the focus is on the different types of renewables. Underlying physical principles are explained and the most important components of state-of-the-art technical systems are discussed.
Students will be able to describe latest environmental technologies in special areas and discuss these innovations in detail. Students will be able to present the structure and function of renewable energy systems. They have a basic knowledge of the economic aspects of renewable energy.
