Lectures, seminars, practical, excursions
Lecture:
- Water resources and politics
- Application of the Rational Method for designing hydraulic structures
- Flooding1 - Flood estimation and flood forecasting
- Flooding2 - Flood risk management ( (Standard of Protection, Risk assessment, risk models incl. Expected Anual Damage, etc), Example CFMPs, HEC-FDA)
- Flooding3 - Flood protection
- Field work1 - Flow gauging using verious methods including ADCP
- Field work2 - Measuring soil moisture, soil water tension
- Field work3 - Infiltration
- Water Resources Management1 - Rain water harvesting
- Water Resources Management1 - Reservoir modelling (HEC-ResSim)
- Water Resources Management1 - Irrigation and drainage
Students will futher apply their hydrological knowledge. They learn how to deal with flooding and in the context of water resources managemnt how to deal with droughts. They learn in an exemplary way how to use software as a means of assisting in planning and decision making.
Through work on examples they will be able to draft design rainwater harvesting systems, reservoirs and irrigation systems. They will be able to evaluate and judge respective systems.
During the field work they apply various techniqes for collecting hydrometric data and carry out the respective processing further improving the ability to evaluate such data.
- Developing competence in evaluating and designing engineering solutions to water problems
- Performing cooperative and responsible team work
