Lehrinhalte/Gliederung

The content of this module includes

  • Dresden landscape and open spaces: History and current driving forces and issues
  • Cultural Landscapes and historic parks: Analysis, conservation and management.
  • Sustainable landscape development: Ecological, social, technical and economic objectives
  • Legislation and guidelines in landscape development and construction – examples in Europe / Germany
  • Urban and landscape planning instruments and stakeholders – the example of Germany
  • Interdisciplinary concepts and exemplary projects for landscape and open space development and landscape construction in rural and urban areas:

- Landscape and open space in urban planning and urban renewal
- Green infrastructure and sustainable urban drainage systems
- Landscape related reclamation and purification of water courses
- Landscape design and construction in traffic infrastructure
- Landscape transformation in industrial/mining areas.

Additional topics may also be introduced and dealt with in the seminar.

Qualifikationsziele

This module is based on students’ knowledge of basic analysis and planning processes in engineering and environment. Students develop an understanding of the protection, planning, design, construction and management of landscape and open space in the context of sustainable urban and regional development and green infrastructure. Students are aware of open space functions, categories, planning instruments, levels and methods as well as the professional field and stakeholders involved. They understand and can assess exemplary examples for design, construction and management of landscape and open space.

 

Students are expected to prove an adequate level of self-guided research and reflection regarding content and methodology. They can analyse and assess topics, methods, instruments and strategies in an exemplary area and in the context of urban and rural development. Issues of open space planning and design are understood in the context of the professional field of environmental engineering, urban planning and design, management of soil and water as well as landscape architecture and landscape construction regarding the functions of resource management, nature conservation and recreation.

Sozial- und Selbstkompetenzen

Students are able to present their findings in seminar discussions and activiely participate in debates with professional stakeholders, also in relation to their individual educational and cultural background.
